MADE OF CARVED MAHOGANY,ATTRIBUTED TO THE NAVY SHIP CHATTANOOGA,C.1866-1871. LAUNCHED IN PHILADELPHIA, AT THE YARDS OF WILLIAM CRAMP & SONS. DECOMISSIONED IN 1866 AT THE PHILADELPHIA NAVY YARD,HULK SOLD JAN. 1872. A LOST TO ICE. A FINE CARVED EAGLE IN THE LIKNESS OF THE GREAT SEAL. THESE WERE USED WHEN RECEIVING IMPORTANT PEOPLE TO DRESS UP THE GANGWAY. EXAMPLE ATTACHED. IT WEIGHS ABOUT 90 LBS. AND IS 40" X 29" 4". IT IS SOLID MAHOGANY. HAS A WIDE BRASS BAND AROUND IT, THAT IS DOVETAILED ON TOP. ALL ORIGINAL, NO REPAIRS AND GOOD SURFACE. IMPRESSIVE PIECE WHICH IS BETTER IN PERSON THAT THE PHOTOS. IN STORAGE AND FOUND IN MAINE. IT COMES WITH A METAL BASE FOR DISPLAY.
